Sales down, but online demand for smartphones is growing According to the IDC research, smartphone sales will drop by 3.5% this year, falling to 1.31 billion units: this decline can find an explanation between the global uncertainty related to raw materials (and not only) and the weaker consumer demand. On the basis of the data provided by Idealo, however, the online demand for the smartphone segment shows no signs of stopping, on the contrary.
In fact, online searches increased by 10% during the first six months of 2022 compared to the same period last year. Interesting how more than one in three users this year have searched the Internet for mid-range or low-end smartphones up to 300 euros, while only 15% of consumers seem to have shown themselves interested in the more expensive high-end devices (from 800 euros upwards ).
Among the latter, Apple stands out above all, which in the first half of the year concentrated 29.2% of all searches related to the smartphone world. Samsung follows closely, however, thanks to the presence of smartphones of almost every price range (26.4%). In third place among the searches we have Xiaomi (18.1%), followed by OPPO (8.3%), Realme (7.4%) and HONOR (2.1%).
