I have been a tech buff forever and have been writing about products and the market mechanics for ages. The dialogue has been “healthy” to say the least. Well, the market has shifted and now we in the Middle East, Africa and some parts of Asia are experiencing a new wave. The tectonic plates of business have shifted, and new skills are required to master the markets. If we try to address the new normal with the old tools, then we are setting ourselves up to fail. Old jobs have vanished and are being replaced by the latest tools of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Will trading disappear altogether?

The answer is no but the margins in hardware coupled with an automated system won’t require the man on the floor making umpteen phone calls to close deals. Organizations are becoming leaner by the day resulting in mass layoffs. As the jobs of yesterday have gone to oblivion, it is imperative that new skills be taken on to survive in the long run. In the Middle East, the furthest people have reached is a WhatsApp message, and that’s where the acquisition of any future knowledge has stalled.
