The console market grew in 2019 but less than expected
Earlier this year, analysts at Newzoo, a company specializing in data collection and processing in the industry, had forecast earnings of more than $ 150 billion from console and video game sales worldwide.

Earlier this year, analysts at Newzoo, a company specializing in data collection and processing in the industry, had forecast earnings of more than $ 150 billion from console and video game sales worldwide. A figure, however, that at the gates of the end of this 2019, has been revised.
The initial estimates on the gaming market were 152.1 billion, or a growth of + 9.6% compared to last year. It was also estimated that the United States would overtake China as the world’s largest gaming market, mainly due to issues within the Asian power in terms of licenses and video game addiction prevention measures such as the law that recently prohibited minors from Play more than 90 minutes a day during the week and no more than three on holidays. The overtaking of the United States on Japan did not however take place.
The revised and corrected analysis of the Newzoo company lowered these forecasts to around $ 148.8 billion. There wouldn’t seem to be a big difference given the volume of earnings but, as the site VG24 / 7 points out, the figure of 3.3 billion is still substantial if you think that such a sum equals the price of 66 weeks on board the Space Station International. Overall, the video game market will have grown 7.2% by the end of 2019 compared to last year.
Other interesting Newzoo data include those on the console game market, whose sales, albeit on the rise, slowed down earlier than expected in favor of the smartphone market. A figure perhaps to be considered physiological given the advanced stage of the current console generation. The PC market is growing more timidly with + 2.8%. According to forecasts, in 2022 the gaming market will be worth 189.6 billion dollars.
