The Old Hand: can you put a USD value on your life?

It seems that we have entered the dark days of war, possibly another dark age.

With Putin’s invasion of The Ukraine, once again we are forced to feel that the world is on a knife edge. Not dissimilar to the feeling we first encountered back in 2020 when we learned about the severity of Covid-19 pandemic.

I cannot condone war in any scenario. At my age now I would like to have thought that a war situation could not possibly occur in the year 2022. Certainly not a war like the one we are experiencing today. A war that could erupt into something far more serious and on a much larger scale. And yet here I am in the year 2022 writing about such an event.

As men, haven’t we learned from our previous experiences with war about how the human loss is so devastating, along with the emotional feeling of anguish that will embrace our lives for decades to come? Well, of course I am speaking from my heart, I am speaking as a human being. I am not speaking as a politician, a businessman, a banker or a journalist. Still, after our first dramatic thoughts we come to the realization that there are many gains for many different types of professionals within many of the war-like scenarios. It is then that we realize wars are manipulated and created by man for his own needs, gains, power and control.
