The Old Hand: freedom, the illusion (part 27)
Probably the most important factor in a free society is the freedom of speech combined with the freedom on information.

Probably the most important factor in a free society is the freedom of speech combined with the freedom on information.
Through these channels we mould our belief systems, our moral code and we go forward to build our lives accordingly to our belief’s.
In a free society there are very few scenarios where it is necessary for any government to intervene and withhold information from the people. I can only think of one such situation and that is, if the people’s lives are OFF in a war scenario of which they are directly and imminently involved in that war, then this would be termed a state of national security. This does not exist for most of the world within the current war we are all witnessing.
We do not live in a free society. The illusion is that we do but we do not. Freedom of speech means that in a debate we should hear all the facts, all the opinions, all the possibilities from every position or a given situation and then only we, ourselves can form our own opinions, which in turn will create our belief system and so direct us.
